How to open a bank account

Banks are a financial institution. They provide accounts in which you can deposit and save your money in. Banks are a safe place to keep your money and valuable belongings. Banks also serve as a source to obtain loans. As financial institutions banks provide many services that concern money.

Step 1

Research

You should research some possible banks that you would like to open an account with. Some factors to consider include: Are their interest rates high? Do they have a lot of branches that are easy to reach? Do they have a long history of banking? And do they offer the types of financial services that you require.

Step 2

Gather up your documents

Opening up a bank account is fairly simple. You should bring with you at least two pieces of photo I.D. A copy of your birth certificate. Proof of your address and phone number. This can include hydro bills and phone bills. The document that you need to bring varies from bank to bank. It’s best to check with the bank beforehand.

Step 3

Contact the Bank

You may want to go directly to the bank or call them by phone to check if an appointment is required to set up a bank account. Once you are at the bank a bank representative will meet with you and help you set up a bank account.
